KMFDM: The Belasco - Los Angeles, CA - 3/24/24

KMFDM is a legendary industrial metal band from Hamburg, Germany. Their name means Kein Mehrheit Für Die Mitleid, which loosely translates to “no pity for the majority.” Since forming in 1984, they have released 23 albums with the latest being Let Go which was released on February 2nd, 2024. KMFDM announced a new USA tour to support the new album and, of course, bring “The Ultra-Heavy Beat” (as the band refers to their music) to their American fans once again. Even before doors opened, fans were lined up outside the venue as they eagerly waited for one of Germany’s best bands.
The venue was nicely packed by the time KMFDM was ready to hit the stage. The lights went out and the crowd cheered as the band members made their way to the stage. The intro was their song “Sucks” and it’s a song where they make fun of themselves with the line, “KMFDM sucks.” The first song performed was the song “All 4 1.” Right away, you could hear their famous industrial and electro sound that made them famous. A few more songs followed which included “Freak Flag,” “Airhead” and “Oh My Goth.” Vocalists Sascha Konietzko and Lucia Cifarelli took turns singing songs as they had their own individual songs that they sang from KMFDM’s catalog. One thing you’ll notice from the band’s performance is that they have a very impressive light show. Every song had a different light show, so no song has the same light show twice. Both singers would take front and center stage throughout the show to show off their dance moves. It was almost like you were at a rave show. The crowd was definitely into them as they either danced too or had a small mosh pit going. A few more tracks were performed which included “Touch,” “Rebels in Kontrol” and “Blindface.” The final song of the set was “A Drug Against War.” The band left the stage, and all seemed quiet and dark. After a brief break, Cifarelli came out with the band and announced her upcoming third solo album, No God Here. To help promote it, she played one of the songs from the album titled “No God Here” and it was beautifully played. After that song, Konietzko came back out to join the rest of the band. Up next was one of their most popular songs, “Megalomaniac.” The crowd kept the energy up as they were happy to get a few more encore songs from KMFDM. After a couple of more encores, it was sadly time for the show to come to an end. The final song of the night was “Paradise,” and it was the last chance for the audience to give it their all. The show finished and KMFDM left the stage once again. The fans left happy and smiling and surely, couldn’t wait for KMFDM to return to the USA again.
