Amorphis: The Echoplex - Los Angeles, CA - 9/15/24

Amorphis is a melodic death metal band from Finland. In 2022, they released their fourteenth studio album titled Halo. This year, they announced their return to US soil. The tour featured Swedish melodic death metal band Dark Tranquillity and Fires in the Distance. Nearing the end of the tour, Amorphis and gang played in Los Angeles, California at The Echoplex. A rather small venue, but it worked out in the end even though most fans were elbow to elbow with a packed venue.
After the first two bands had finished their set, it was time for Amorphis to hit the stage. The lights went out and the packed venue cheered as the members came out and made their way to the stage. The first song performed was “Northwards,” the first song from the newest album. Right away, you could hear the classic melodic death metal sound that makes Amorphis so unique. The next song was “On the Dark Waters,” the second song from the newest album. The whole band sounded perfect and on point. The fans up front were raising their horns and banging their heads while fans in the middle were moshing their lives away. Singer Tomi Joutsen didn’t have much to say in between songs and preferred to just play the songs instead of talking to the audience, which is also a good thing. Some of their other greatest hits performed on this show included “The Moon,” “Silver Bride,” “Wrong Direction,” and “Black Winter Day.” Every song that was performed, the fans cheered with excitement. The final song of the night was “The Bee” from their album Queen of Time (2018). This was the last chance fans had to let out any remaining energy they had, and they delivered. The band came out to bow to their audience and the fans cheered and thanked them for yet another amazing performance. Amorphis left the stage, but left fans happy and smiling as they hugged it out with each other and surely, lots of new friendships were made. Hopefully it’s not long before Amorphis return to the states and hopefully, with a new album too.
